DON LOMBARDI

RETIRED FIRE CHIEF, WEST METRO FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT

Don Lombardi dedicated over 34 years to the West Metro Fire Protection District, rising through the ranks to Fire Chief.  Under his leadership, this complex Metropolitan agency achieved international accreditation and an ISO Class 1 rating. His extensive experience encompasses all facets of fire and EMS delivery, including strategic planning, operational leadership, labor-management collaboration, policy development, all-hazards response, and emergency medical services integration.

As the former sponsoring agency chief for FEMA US&R Colorado Task Force 1, a co-author of the Colorado Firefighters Heart and Cancer Benefit legislation, and a current member of the

NFPA 1750 committee, Chief Lombardi has been at the forefront of critical issues facing the fire service.  In recognition of his contributions, Chief Lombardi was honored as the 2022 Colorado Fire Chief of the Year and received the 2023 Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association Russell Sanders Lifetime Achievement Award. Additionally, he was awarded the Cross of Merit from the European Fire Officers (FEU).
